About LHMc Studio

LHMc Studio sounds like a fancy setup, but really, it's one woman, Laura Holmes McCarthy, in her basement in Wappingers Falls, NY.

I'm a self-taught clay artist, working in both ceramic stoneware and polymer. My education lacks the letters "MFA" but does include the wisdom and guidance of a number of teachers and friends in studios throughout NYC and the Hudson Valley.

Talking about spirituality can feel a bit hippy-dippy, but it's impossible to tell people about my work without acknowledging the way craft traditions ground us in our immediate surroundings while connecting us to people in other times and places. I believe that the way a society values its objects is reflective of how it values its people–disposable products treat the people and labor behind creating them as disposable, too. In my practice, I work to be part of a growing population of people who seek to re-instill meaning and respect into the things with which we surround ourselves every day.

Don't come to me looking for perfection. In fact, it's best if you come to me in active pursuit of imperfection. That's what we're good at around here.
